LX CLUB v WEST COUNTRY SELECT
Sunday 4th November 2007
‘Goal
Scoring Education at Exeter
University’
LX Club 1
WCS 6
Following on from the England Over 60s game versus Isca Over 50s, and a one
minute silence in memory of David Simms, the LX Club team played on the
water based pitch at the University, after their long journeys to
Devon.
It was soon noticeable that motorway stiffness, combined with
minor injuries being carried by some players, was going to play a major part
in the result, and within twenty minutes LX Club were 3-0 down to the West
Country team, captained by LXer Adrian Money, who were first to the ball with quick
build ups in defence to attack, and played in a well disciplined formation.
After half-time, the LX team’s performance improved, and Gordon Small scored to give some
encouragement. However, with Alan Muller outstanding at centre-half, WCS
created many more goal scoring opportunities, to give the West team a well
deserved final 6-1 win.
Many thanks go
to Sam Tallowyn and Steve Pearce (Devon County UHA) for their excellent
umpiring, and to the Isca Hockey Club for their fine hospitality, especially Winston Bower, for organising this excellent double
fixture again.
