Clean Sweep by England and LX Club.
Brief Report
England GM, GGM & SGM all win Gold as also do
LX Red & LX Blue.
England GM had a hard tussle against Holland
in the Final and were 2 down at half time .After the break England began to take
control and won a number of short corners resulting in England evening the score
by full time. The match was then decided on penalty flicks. Following the first
barrage of 5 flicks everything was still all square and it then moved into
sudden death which England were fortunate enough to win.
England GGM went into the final as runners
up to Holland. At half time it was goal-less but in the second half Purshouse
scored a goal in open play and then Longden put away a decisive penalty flick to
end the game at 2- 0 in England's favour.
England SGM won all four of their matches
and in fact were outright winners after their first three games. In their first
game they beat Germany 3 - 0 (goal scorers Hazell 1; Wilkinson 1; Pearce 1). The
second game on the same day was against Holland which they won 5 - 0 (goal
scorers Wilkinson 1; Hazell 1; Montgomery 1; Warrender 2 -one with PF). The next
day they played Germany for a second time when Germany changed their tactics and
England look rather ragged. Nevertheless England still dominated the match and
won 1- 0 (goal scorer Warrender 1 and 1 saved PF). The game on the last day was
England's second match against Holland which England won 4 - 0 (goal scorers
Kort 1; Hazell 1; Bann 2). Throughout their 4 matches there was only one short
corner against England and their goalie Fripp touched the ball on less than 4
occasions.
LX Red being the winners of Pool A2 beat the
runners up of Pool A1 to play Germany in the final. The final was a close run
thing but LX Red managed to slot in the winner in the dying minutes of the game
to come out winners at 1 - 0 and winners of the Tournament A Trophy.
LX Blue won all their matches (which in the
end were played in the first two days) without conceding a goal and were clear
winners of the Tournament B Trophy.
