LX CLUB v Yorkshire Select
Adel Leeds - Sunday 18th
October 2009
Result 1 - 1
Cochrane rides north to slot in
England LX goal midway through the first half.
The goal resulted from LX dominance of the
mid-field through David Higham, John Land, Ray Jeff and Peter Danson with the
ball worked to right wing and Yorkshire pulled across leaving Rod unmarked with
a easy slot on goal when the ball came across.
Yorkshire Select with 3 (David's) LXer's David Durrans, David
Ewing and David Margerison had started moving the ball around well but England
LX came more into the game as the half progressed and see them emerge as the
better team in the first half.
LX lost goalkeeper Alan Dures on
Thursday to be replaced by guest keeper Andy Milner (Leeds Adel Carnegie Coach)
an ex National League keeper.
Although not having played for 2/3 years he made
some excellent saves with one particularly memorable hand save in the top right
hand corner from a scooped flick by Bob Sibley.
1-Nil down at half time, Yorkshire
Select regrouped and gained control on the mid field where Geoff Birkett had an
outstanding 2nd half.
Pressure built up down both wings resulting in
several short corners.
Roger Lomas taking a leaf out of Andy Milners book
got his hand to and pushed a shot over the bar.
Geoff Birkett made no mistake with the penalty
flick.
Yorkshire pressed for the winner but it was not to be.
A game of two halves each team
dominating one half.
The draw on reflection seemed a fair result for an
enjoyable well contested, evenly matched game.
Cold showers were the only blip as the teams retired to the
bar for drinks followed by excellent food prepared after much effort by Lynda
Margerison.
