LX v Havant
13th
June 2010
at Havant
College
After
England’s
dismal performance on the football pitch, against the USA,
LX England thought they should show how a ball could be moved around and, more
importantly, how to score goals.
On a lovely, sunny afternoon LX started in a lively
way and from a well worked short corner Brian Perryman scored with a keenly
struck shot.
From this excellent start LX continued to pass the ball
around neatly, making full use of the pitch so that both backs, Sudesh Nayar and
David Read, were brought into the game by Brian “start again” Tubb without being
put under any undue pressure; but despite some useful attacks down the right,
with Bob Grenside linking well with Keith Hunt, there was no further score in
this half.
The second half also started well for
LX and a through pass from Brian Perryman allowed Rod Cochrane to slot the ball
home on the left hand post.
This seemed a comfortable lead.
However, a slight aberration, that no one was able
to resolve in the bar afterwards, allowed Ian Pett from Havant to reduce the LX
lead.
Thereafter excellent work in midfield from Brian Tubb,
Adrian Money and the ever mobile Brian Perryman allowed Bob Grenside, and Pami
Bolina (a guest from Trojans) to make inroads into Havant’s 22.
From one of these attacks Pami scored LX’s third
goal and then from an excellent Perryman through pass scored again. Rod Cochrane
chased apparent lost causes to good effect and while Austyn Leaverland just
missed out in front of goal, it remained for Bob Grenside to squeeze between 3
or 4 defenders and make the score a very healthy and well deserved 5 – 1.
Barry Sewell may request the return of his match
fee.
Thanks to umpires Ken and Joan who contributed to a very
enjoyable game and to John Davey for an excellent day – really sorry you are not
up to playing at the moment, John.
