Match Report

England SGM’s  4  V   Scotland SGM’s 0

For the 3rd year in a row England hosted Scotland at Durham Maiden Castle hoping to keep their winning form against the Scots intact. Following a period of hot & sunny weather, Thursday started wet but cleared up in time for the start of the game. Wearing their new TK kit England started well but despite having the Lion’s share of possession and a number of PC, they failed to score. The defence was solid and Scotland only made inroads into the final third on a handful of occasions. In fact Mike Fripp in goal only touched the ball once in the first half.  HT 0- 0

After a positive HT talk the second half started with England moving forward and an excellent passing movement out of defence up the right wing to Gerald Wilkinson whose cross was deflected onwards by David Wright for Tony Henman to convert with a fine strike to put England 1 -0 up, all within 2 minutes of the restart. This goal settled England and they started to dominate the game, after a further 10 minutes following some excellent passing moves involving Ken Wilcock , Peter Danson & John Land - Gerry Kort was on hand to score the 2nd. Scotland were now under a lot of pressure and England with John Land prominent in attack went further ahead with goals from Kort & Henman and at the final whistle were worthy winners. England now look forward to the 14th/15th July when they play a Bowdon Masters X1 & a Cumbria Masters X1 at Bowdon where all 17 squad members will be involved.
