LX CLUB  Lakes Tour

15th – 17th June 2012

Hockey and Hog Roast.

While the rest of the country was complaining about the wet weather, Cumbria just accepted it as the norm and so 16 players and their partners made, what was for many, a long trip to Cockermouth.

Golfers (Hazell and Mack), walkers (Fripp and Tubb) and local boy (Dures) arrived Thursday with the majority arriving Friday for dinner at the Trout.

Dot Patton encouraged and cajoled the ladies to join her on a walk the next morning (to include coffee and possibly lunch at the Kirkstile Inn) and two brave ladies Kay (I’m game for anything) Hazell and Diane Durrans joined Dot in wet and windy conditions to walk around Loweswater. Unfortunately the coffee was abandoned this year as the three were in need of drying off!

LX Red 2 Cumbria Masters 1   Saturday 15th June 2012

With 8 of the England World Cup SGM squad (Dures,Danson,Fripp,Hazell,Mack,Ross,Tubb,Wilkinson) playing for LX Red and 2 (Warrender,Holden) for Cumbria Masters, there was an array of talent on view and spectators weren’t disappointed as this experience, alongside the youth of  Jeff,  Durrans ,  Ridings, Lomas, ReadDG and Donnelly and the supporting substitutes of Jameson and Darlington, took the game to Cumbria.
In a game of cut and thrust it was LX who were getting the upper hand and good umpiring allowed Lomas to drive through after being fouled and for Durrans to pick up the pieces to score.

However, Cumbria, urged on by the extremely vocal manager Holden, pulled one back only for Lomas and Durrans again to combine to allow Donnelly to score the winner.

Derwent Island Hog Roast   Saturday 15th June 2012

At the kind invitation of Doug and  Fiona a wonderful afternoon and evening was spent at  their  National Trust residence on Derwent Island, just outside Keswick.
LXers, players from Cumbria Masters and Keswick/West Cumbria HC
(around 55 in total) were transported across the lake by Keswick Motor Launch Co. although it was down to Doug to ferry all back in groups on his boat.
Wine was served on the terrace where the beautiful although moody Lake District surroundings were viewed.
A hog roast was provided in a marquee with tables set out in various historic rooms around the house for more formal dining.
Although the weather was grey and dull outside it was anything but inside with wine, humour and exaggerated stories flowing.

Fiona was presented with some flowers and Doug and Mike thanked for their hard work in putting the weekend together.

LX Red  1 Keswick/West Cumbria Over 50s 1       Sunday 16th June 2012

Sunday morning possibly came too soon for some with an 11 am push back, but both teams were soon into their stride.
LX were keeping good possession and shape, working hard and playing open hockey. Enterprising play down the right saw Ross almost score. Meanwhile Tubb was saving off the line.
The 2nd half saw K/WC open in determined fashion and were awarded a penalty stroke. However this was missed and LX continued to push foward with Lomas and
Durrans combining yet again to let Wilkinson in to score.
LX were determined to notch up their 2nd win. However in the last minute K/WC were awarded another penalty stroke from which they scored.
A draw was a fair result, but a moral victory for LX against an over 50s team!
Both teams then retired to Cockermouth Conservative Club for Curry and Lasagne before farewell speeches and thanks.
