‘LX Club enjoy playing on a 2012 Pre-Olympic Practice Pitch’

LX Reds 2     LX Whites 1

This new LX Club game, held on one of the 2012 Pre-Olympic practice blue and pink pitches, attracted members from far and wide.  With the very cold weather and temperatures hovering around 1C, with an east wind lowering temperatures even further, some players even sported thick layers of two or three shirts!

The game was played at a high speed, with excellent skills on display, and one which was very enjoyable in which to participate.  Whites, captained by Nigel Spencer-Knott, provided most of the possession in the first half, but a goal came against the run of play for Reds when a spectacular 50 metre pass from Roger Lomas reached Henrik Kjellin, who had run into an unmarked position behind the Whites defence and scored with ease.

Whites continued to press forward, and Crawford McKee in the Reds goal made some excellent saves from shots and penalty corners.  Near to half time Trevor Denison, the Captain of Reds, weaved his way past several players, and following a slick interchange with Henrik, scored past the diving Chris Wildee.

In the second half Whites maintained their dominance with the assistance of four Old Loughtonians players.  The deserved goal eventually arrived following a precise cross-field pass from Nigel Spencer-Knott, and Ken Wooding scored an unstoppable goal to make the final result 2-1 to Reds.

Excellent hospitality was provided in the Old Loughtonians Clubhouse, and special thanks were given to the two umpires, Ian Marsh and Frank Lockhart (OLs), who endured the intense cold; well done gentlemen.  It was warmly appreciated by the LX Club that four Old Loughtonians players helped to complete the teams on the day, and final thanks go to Mick O’Malley (Match Manager) in taking the initiative to set up a new fixture, hopefully to be repeated next year.
