LX Club v Eastcote
5th May 2013
Score: Eastcote 1, LX 2
Following successive defeats at the hands of Eastcote in the previous two years, LX fielded a stronger side this time round. The two teams were equally matched, and there was end-to-end play from the start. The hosts made better use of their possession in the early encounters. Sarosh Talati, playing for Eastcote, was a handful in the midfield, and Lloyd Wood and Jason Max forced several penalty corners. Colin Kimber in the LX goal was on top form, saving shot after shot. Midway through the half the game settled into a battle between the two midfields, with Brian Perryman, Brian Stokes and Geoff Lucas beginning to gain the upper hand for LX.
Soon after half-time, against the run of play, Eastcote scored from a penalty corner, with Jason Max latching onto a Graham Jackson shot at the far post and slipping it past the defenders on the line. LX responded with several sustained attacks. Good play on the right flank between Brian Stokes and Geoff Lucas found Sudesh Nayar. He slipped the ball to Gordon Small in the circle, who neatly beat the keeper. LX’s second goal came from a penalty corner. Adrian Robertson’s shot to the far post was tapped in by Nayar. Eastcote came back strongly towards the end, and Kimber again had to deal with a number of shots at goal.
Eastcote provided the usual excellent meal to follow, and everyone went home looking forward to next year.
