LX Club v  Oxted Moonshiners

on 30 June,2013

Result: Oxted 9 - LX 1

An easy victory for Oxted ? - obviously "Yes" !  A poor performance from LX - "No" !

This was a fine game of hockey with both sides showing great ball-retention skills. Unfortunately the fact that the match was played on the hottest day of the year to date & that the average age of LX rivalled that of The Rolling Stones meant that the 50-year old legs of the home side game them the cutting edge. The good passing of LX enabled LX to control long periods of the game but sadly this resulted in few goal-scoring opportunities except in the second half when a few short corners were obtained.

LX can take great credit in that at no time did heads go down in the face of clinical finishing by Oxted. It was only just reward when after a sequence of fine triangulation down the right Brian Tubb finished what he had instigated. When the ball was finally worked to Tubby at the top of the circle his instant flick surprised the home goalie & LX at last managed to trouble the scorers.

Great credit must go to the Oxted umpire & our own Eugene Murphy for umpiring so well that none of their decisions even raised an eyebrow !  Mention should also be made of Duncan Jones of Oxted who guested for LX when poor Austyn Leaverland was left gridlocked on the M3. Duncan worked his legs off & provided much needed impetus to our best attacking moves.

Our thanks as always to Rainer Vogt for making all the arrangements for the fixture. I'll not embarrass Rainer by divulging the details of the freak accident which resulted in his breaking his neck a few weeks ago. We were delighted that Rainer was at least able to watch from the touchline. In his vote of thanks to Oxted Robin Mayes wished Rainer a speedy return to full health as well as reporting that Tony Jones absence from the fixture this year was occasioned by Tony earlier in the week having had one full knee plus one partial knee replacement.

LX team:  Nigel Dixon, Alan Jackson, David Read, Max Hamber, Brian Tubb, John Longden, Robin Mayes ( Captain), Peter Ross, Henrick Kjellin, Duncan Jones ( guest ) & Adrian Money.
