LX  v  Yorkshire Select

Yorkshire Select XI, provided opposition well matched in age to the LX team, started well attacking from mid-field with David Higham (playing for Yorkshire Select) moving well up field before passing to the right flank with David Durrans, Sajd Dehl and Richard Yardley's inter-passing caused LX a few problems in defence.  The pressure eventually resulted in a goal for Yorkshire Select when Richard Yardley drew the defence to the left and crossed to unmarked (left wing) Ian Phillips for an easy tap in.  As the half progressed LX came more into the game with the ball moved around well in midfield, with Ray Jeff particularly prominent before the ball was worked to Rob Alchin and into John Land resulting in several excellent saves from George Buxton in Yorkshire Select goal.

Turning round one down at half time LX continued to press and were rewarded with an early equaliser.  David Margerison dummied the opposition playing a long ball out to Rob Alchin on the right wing who worked the ball to John Land in the circle although John Land had the opportunity to shoot he unselfishly passed to left wing, Robert Clark well in position on the right post for a tap in.  The goal spurred Yorkshire Select to redouble their efforts and despite two excellent saves from Jim Standish, Yorkshire Select went ahead from a well placed short corner from Ray Everett.

For the last quarter of the game LX dominated play adopting their well tried and tested method of passing, keeping possession, which resulted in a number of opportunities in open play and at short corners.  Roger Lomas stepped up for one short corner, waited for the keeper to move to his right and calmly slotted the ball into the left hand corner.

2-2 the result of an evenly contested, competitive, enjoyable game.

An excellent foray into Yorkshire for the LX Clubthoroughly enjoyed by everyone and a fixture hopefully established on the calendar for future years.
