LX A v The Young Pretenders at Oxford Hawks on 13th July 2008
Result
LX “A”. 4. v The Young Pretenders 0 (HT 1-0)
Match Report:
The young pretenders were brought together to give the “A”
squad a stiff test and in the first half there was some good hockey played by
both sides. However, the LX “A” side created the better
chances and should have built a comfortable lead by half time, but had to be
grateful for their 1-0 score line thanks to a penalty stroke conversion by
Mahmood-Sheikh. Although LX”A” had kept a good shape,
they were at times slow in moving the ball and guilty of giving the ball away
cheaply, which allowed the Young Pretenders to put pressure on the defence.
Kimber in goal and the two backs, Mills and Robertson, kept things pretty tight
in defence and any danger was soon dealt with.
The second half was a very different story; LX “A” slightly
changed their strategy and played a higher pressure game, completely dominated
this period. The whole of LX”A”’s play was much sharper
and it was soon rewarded with an early goal from Surridge.
Stowell converted a second penalty and with LX”A” looking the much fitter side,
Mahmood-Sheikh rounded the scoring off to complete an excellent team
performance.
