ANCIENT BRITONS
Nice sunny weather saw LX assemble at Oxford Hawks and with a
very brief introduction and briefing we started our first match against The
Ancient Britons with the ever reliable Judy Robson and husband Dave officiating
Adrian Robertson controlled the middle of the park ably
helped by Adrian Money and
Max Hamber at wing half
and the full backs Colin Pinks and Rainer Vogt settled well to provide a
solid defence with the ever steady Nigel Dixon in Goal.
With Adrian Stephenson at centre forward always moving into
attacking positions and Peter R Wilson right wing and Keith Montgomery left wing
making penetrating runs the game was taken to The Ancient Britons who survived
some early LX chances.
The LX right flank set up the first goal with Peter R Wilson
slipping his marker and getting a superb pass to Adrian Stephenson who with
little room got in a fantastic strike into the top of the net
The Ancient Britons faught back strongly
after this goal and we had some good end to end hockey with chances for
both sides but both defences held out and
the final whistle blew just
as Keith Montgomery had broken
through the AB defence with an open goal in front of him.

ENGLAND OVER 65'S.
LX came under more pressure from the start of the second
game and Colin Pearce and John Kaylor the inside forwards had to get through a
lot of work to break up England's
attacks.
With both teams failing to penetrate
into the circles it took an inspirational attack from our right winger
Peter R.Wilson to break the deadlock.
A superb
clearance from Adrian Robertson found Peter on the half way line who then
slipped his marker waltzed round the defending England full back and with the
England full backs caught square had the goal keeper to beat. He jinked left and
drew the ball right round the goalkeeper to score.
England then piled on the pressure but LX held firm until
the final whistle.
A tremendous all round LX team performance .
The
other game between the GGM and the Ancient Britons was played over
three 20 minute periods and ended in a 3-1 win for the Ancient Britons.
Thanks must go to Richard Clarke and Oxford Hawks, to Sarah
Clarke and her team who organised the team teas and to the umpires.
Thanks to The Ancient Britons who gave us a superb game and
their after match hospitality and
England over 65 for a most
enjoyable game.
