LX -A
V
The Members at Nonsuch on 31st August 2008
Despite the drizzling rain, LX started brightly against the
Members with good interlinking play. Early on, Imitiaz made a great play down
the right and provided a defence splitting cross into the penalty spot, which
the keeper came to and saved. Brian Perryman’s follow up shot from the top
of D, which also saved by the keeper, however Stephen Stowell was on hand to
finish clinically to give LX the lead. Members responded well and a period of
end to end play ensued and right at the end of the quarter Members equalised
from a short corner. The second quarter started in a similar fashion with
both sides getting into each other’s 25. However, LX took the lead when Imitiaz
created a two on one giving Lloyd Wood the chance at the top of the D to place a
firm shot in the bottom right hand corner. The third quarter began with LX
applying the pressure to Members who defended very well including disrupting a
number of short corners. However, a through ball got through to Stephen
Stowell, whose first time shot gave the Members goalkeeper no chance.
Against the run of play, Members were awarded a penalty
stroke following some great stick skills from Suti Khehar, which was confidently
converted to make the score 3:2. The quarter ended with some excellent
attacking play from LX, but unfortunately with no end result. The weather
had cleared by the start of quarter four and the sun was even threatening to
show itself. Members would have equalised had it not been for an excellent
diving stick save from Colin Kimber followed by a double save on the line by
German Singh. A lovely meal followed a thoroughly enjoyable game in Cheam’s
clubhouse with the sun shining at last.
