LX CLUB v
Oxted Hockey Club
1st June 2008
LX Club 3
Oxted Hockey Club 6
Sports writers use the expression
“it was a game of two halves” that could be said of this game.
From
the start the LX defence was under extreme pressure and Nigel Dixon was quickly
brought into action and made a number of very good saves.
Poor clearances and slow movement of the ball were
the causes of much of the pressure on the LX defence.
For the first 20 minutes the LX defence had no
answer to the accurate passing and quick moving attack of Oxted. Within that
time Oxted had scored 4 well constructed goals.
Gradually the LX began to string passes together
and with Alan Jackson, Sudesh Nayer and Robin Mayes gaining more control of the
mid field.
With Peter Ross running hard, after his high altitude
training in South America, and Wendy Beany providing some excellent crosses from
the left wing, attacks on the Oxted goal began the occur.
LX
lost the first half 0 – 4.
After the interval Oxted went
straight onto the attack and their fast running for wards quickly scored a
further 2 goals.
Lorrie O’Keefe came on at left half and helped to
tighten up the LX defence and also added impetus to the attack.
From one of the more frequent raids on the Oxted
circle a penalty corner was awarded. The strike at goal by Sudesh Nayer was
deflected into the air and went in off the underside of the bar.
Sudesh was a tower of strength in breaking up
further attacks from Oxted and was the instigator of a number of moves down the
right wing involving Robin Mayes and John Max-Hamber.
From one such move a cross from John found Wendy in
space and she calmly struck the ball into an open goal.
A few minutes later Wendy scored her second goal
when, from a short corner, the Oxted defence failed to clear their circle and
she was on hand to push the ball home.
The LX finished strongly and had a number of clear
chances which were shot wide of goal.
The goal scorers for Oxted were, Andy Duncan (3), Rick
Hunnam (2), and Mike McGhee (1).
LX won the second half 3 – 2.
Our thanks go to Peter Saggers for his excellent umpiring and to Rainer Vogt for
arranging this most enjoyable fixture, a strong opposition and good hospitality.
As Match Manager my
thanks go to Wendy who at the last minute came with Mike and as was said after
the match “ran her socks off”, well played Wendy and to Laurie who came to
watch, with his gear.
