LX CLUB v WALES
22nd JUNE 2008
at Telford & Wrekin HC
Result : LX 2 (Gill, Watson),
Wales
3.
Report: The game was played in extremely
blustery conditions at Telford
and Wrekin HC, Jim Tranter’s home club. After a cagy start Wales opened the
scoring through a penalty corner strike from their Irish LX-er Martin Cavanagh.
LX then missed a penalty stroke, but equalised shortly afterwards, captain David
Gill scoring from close range. For the rest of the first half LX pressed hard
but without success. In the second half LX had the majority of possession, but
conspired to concede two penalty strokes during Welsh breakaways, both of which
were converted. A goal from Mark Watson from a well-worked corner was too
little, too late, and Wales hung on to finish 3-2 winners.
This was intended to be a get-together for the Barcelona LX
Red squad. Nine of the squad (Dures, Watson, Perry, Grinham, Jeff, Tranter,
Durrans, Chris Jones and skipper Gill) turned out together with two guests.
Match manager: Jim Tranter
